dhakai paratha differently in calcutta

This a different kind of dhakai paratha that is made by few shops in maniktala market , ganguram and some shop in chetla .....this  is a losing art and people are not so aware of it .......
dhakai paratha is served with cholar dal .......


This is a losing art of bengal in tele bhaja foods  ,,,, if anbody knows more about and its recipe is welcome to add ......

I love "dhakai parota". Don't know whether it is from Dhaka though. But certainly the one in Kolkata is quite amazing. Typically found in north kolkata, I know of a shop just beside the "Talkie Show House" cinema hall that still serves it. There is also one eatery at Karunamoyee in Salt Lake that makes them. Plus, every year, there's a huge stall at Bidhannagar Mela. Eating the parota in the mela has almost become a ritual for me now.

well - since this blog is about veg food - but frankly dhakai parota with kasha mangsho is heavenly. Reason why it's dying out is because rolling out these paratha is very tedious. Let me find the right words and I'll share the recipe :)

Used to have dhakai paratha when I was a kid in the 1970s on visits to Cal. Haven't had any since then. Have often wondered what happened to the shops which used to serve it. Thanks for rekindling the nostalgia.
